Catholic Charities provides the Alternatives to Incarceration program as a positive impact and alternative to incarceration for individuals arrested and convicted of nonviolent and nonserious crimes. The participants are court-ordered by a judge to complete the program through Catholic Charities. These programs are designed for the participants to achieve positive personal goals and reduce the possibility of repetition. Participant engagement in our programs provides an opportunity for them to make restitution to the community and themselves.
The Alternatives to Incarceration program offers eligible non-violent individuals who have been charged with crimes and violations in specific categories the opportunity to complete community service instead of incarceration. This alternative sentencing program allows individuals to perform community service as restitution for their offenses. It saves the expense of providing jail sentences for every category of criminal activity and violation, where it seems that incarceration may not be the best sentence for the crime.
