The Schoharie County Child Advocacy Center Team
The Schoharie County Child Advocacy Center is a team of professionals responsible for working with, supporting and investigating the cases of child abuse brought before them at the Child Advocacy Center. These members include mental health professionals, law enforcement, Child Protective Services, the District Attorney, advocates and medical professionals.
What happens at the Child Advocacy Center?
The team members all work together in a manner that provides the child and non-offending family members a comfortable, non-threatening environment while the investigation is completed with the least amount of additional stress to the child and family. Each family is assigned an advocate that works with them directly throughout the process to ensure the child and family needs are met. Team members may also provide referrals to other community service providers based on the family’s individual needs.
Staff and team members also provide prevention education to families as well as in the community.
Center staff also serves as the community contact for the Schoharie County Safe Harbour Program, which is focused on preventing and responding to youth sex trafficking and/or youth at risk of trafficking in Schoharie County.
